Arrival and Departure

Arrival

School begins promptly at 8:15. Students may arrive at school through the main gate at the front of the school, around 8 a.m. They may arrive earlier only if they are enrolled in 6 to 6 or Before-School-Academic Programs. No supervision of students is available before this time, so for your child's safety, please monitor the time they leave home each morning. If students arrive at school before 8 a.m. they will be sent home.

Student must wait at the designated supervision location, the ramp next to the lunch arbor, until school begins. They may not wander through campus, hang out int the bathrooms, or go to the classroom early.

Parents are welcome to accompany their children to the blacktop in the morning. We ask that parents do not bring children to the classroom. If a parent needs to talk to the classroom teacher, they may leave a note in the office or contact the teacher before the 8:15 a.m. school bell, or after the 2:30 dismissal bell.

Breakfast will be served in the classroom starting at 8:15.

Student Drop Off

Adults delivering children to school should leave them off by the front gate.

Leaving Campus

First through 5th grade students will be dismissed daily at their blacktop line. Kindergarten students are dismissed from their classrooms.

To pick up your student after school, everyone MUST wait at the lunch tables.

It is against school rules to take wait for students by their classrooms or to take them from line early.

Kindergarten students who are not picked up on time will be kept in the office until home contact is made. More than two incidents of the same child not being picked up on time will result in a call to school police and possibly a referral to Child Protective Services.

Infant, Preschool, and Kindergarten:

Parents may drop off students at their classrooms. Following drop-off, parents should leave campus.

Grades 1-6:

When the 8:00 a.m. bell rings all students are to go directly to the blacktop and line up on their Room number. Students are not to go to their classrooms for any reason. Supervision is provided in the cafeteria area, the blacktop area, and various high traffic points on campus.

Walking

Bicycles

The San Diego Police Department requests that only students in grades four and above ride bicycles to school. Although the school has designated an area for students to park bicycles, the San Diego Unified School District is not responsible for theft, damage, or loss of use to any bicycle, equipment or article left in or around this area. All such risk is assumed by the student.

All bicycles should have locks and licenses. Students are urged to secure their bicycles in an appropriate manner by using a quality lock and chain or other devices.

Helmets are required by California law. Students not wearing helmets may lose the privilege of parking a bike on school grounds. As defined in Vehicle Code Section 21212, any person under 18 years of age must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet when riding a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, or when wearing in-line or roller skates. Helmets must also meet the standards of either the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Dismissal

Students are dismissed promptly at 2:30 p.m. (12:15 p.m. on Wednesdays) and should leave campus immediately upon dismissal. Students who ride the bus to and from school will leave shortly after dismissal.

Kindergarten:

Students are dismissed from the classroom area by their teacher upon seeing a responsible adult or older sibling. Older siblings must come to is the Kindergarten yard to pick up younger siblings.

Grades 1-3:

Teachers walk all students to the front entrance of school. All students must be picked up at the front entrance whether they walk home with an older sibling or are picked up by an adult.

Grades 4-6:

Teachers dismiss students from the classroom and they are to leave campus via the front entrance. If they are responsible for a younger student, they must go to the front of school or the Kindergarten yard to pick them up and then promptly head home.

PrimeTime Extended Day Program Students:

All PrimeTime and licensed day care program students are dismissed from their classrooms and sent to [specify location]? for check in. Kindergarten students are picked up at their classrooms by a PrimeTime staff member.

Bus Students:

All buses park in the loading/unloading zone [specify location]. All bus students and space-available riders will line up at [specify location] by the appropriate route sign and wait to be called to their bus by a staff member.


If you are more than 10 minutes late to pick up a student, please go to the front office. You may be asked to provide identification. Please review the Visitors Policy page for additional information.
