The San Diego Unified School District Police Service are partnered with the San Diego County Crime Stoppers, a non profit organization with the mission of making San Diego County safer through the Students Speaking Out Program. Students Speaking Out was created with the goal of helping you spend more time preparing young people for leadership in the future. The program was designed to create opportunities for parents, educators, and students to have a dialogue about the choices they and their peers make. While no one wants dangerous activities or crime to be a topic in schools, unfortunately it is an issue that must be dealt with in our schools today. Students Speaking Out is a proactive approach to creating a safer school environment. Students Speaking Out can be utilized within the curriculum to teach character development. The program promotes school spirit, pride, and a positive campus image to students.
In addition to being a way students can safely report school crimes anonymously without fear of retaliation, this program encourages the development of responsibility. Students can participate in leadership roles while benefiting from a reduction in negative incidents on campus and enjoy an increased sense of security. Student Speaking Out is a program of San Diego County Crime Stoppers. We welcome your suggestions and feedback on this program. If you want ideas on how to implement Students Speaking Out at your school, speak with your school campus officer or visit the Crime Stoppers website or call CrimeStoppers at (619) 275-8240. During the 2017-2018 school year, School Police Services partnered with San Diego High and Pt Loma High School video program teachers, Kyle Williams and Anthony Palmiotto, to join forces with students and to use their talents to produce public service announcements. The goal was to encourage and empower each student to report suspicious and criminal activities on our campuses to law enforcement, staff, anonymously by calling Students Speaking Out or by using the Crime Stoppers App. The call to action video was created by Pt Loma students, Anthony Torres and Jakob Tiger. The San Diego High School students, Buster Underwood, Yasmin Diaz, and David Castellon created a video on the importance of See Something Say Something if you see suspicious activity on your school campus.
